The Shaw House Inn is the most beautiful home in Ferndale, Northern California. The Inn sits on one acre of lush gardens, lawn and creek. There are 100+ year old redwoods, maple, fir, cedar, oak, apple, plum, and cherry trees. There are antique roses, rhododendron, camillas, well used horseshoe pits, a challenging croquet lawn and climbing trees. The Inn is nestled in the coastal area of the giant redwoods of northern California. The state and national redwood and beach parks surround the Shaw House. The local beach is a 5 minute drive through pastoral horse and sheep pastures. The Shaw House was a family home for the first 125 years. It has operated as an Inn for about 35 years, and is a well established business with a far spread appeal and reputation. Known for hosting guests from all over the world coming to visit the redwoods. This home is a wonderful sanctuary for guests, or to go back to it's original purpose, a family home full of space and grace.

The Inn has 8 guest rooms, with 8 private baths and an owners quarters. The owners quarters, or master suite, is 744 square feet, with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the creek and out into the tree canopy. The bedroom opens into a sitting room, then down into the office. The bathroom is large with a clawfoot tub and shower.

The main floor has four guest rooms, two parlors, a library, dining room with seating for 10 and a gift shop. The dining room is central and French doors open to atrium court yard for outdoor sitting. The library and parlor have beautiful working fireplaces, one of which Isabella Shaw bought at Gump's in San Francisco in the late 1800's.

Each of the guest rooms are very special and have been designed for the fullest enjoyment and in keeping with the vintage period. All four of the main floor suites have semi private verandas and private entrances. All are in excellent condition.

The second floor has four guest rooms, accessed by the main staircase at the entry. Two of the guest rooms have private en suite baths with the remaining two rooms having their private baths just down the hall. The Shaw Suite, Garden Room and the Wisteria Room have balcony seating for outdoor enjoyment.

The kitchen has brand new flooring, stainless steel appliances, a pantry and prep table. There is a 3.5 car garage, workbench and storage area. Also off the garage is a laundry room. There is off street parking for up to 8 guest vehicles in the parking area.

The gardens offer many opportunities for weddings and parties. It has a creek runs along the back side of the property.

The owner has completed many upgrades since the purchase and the overall house is a magnificent design of Carpenter Gothic Revival and is in overall excellent condition.

Improvements:

The house was upgraded with forced air heating unit in 2003, maintenance is done yearly. The foundation was replaced with state of the art post and pillar in early 1990's. New insulation under the house in 2008. The porches and decks have all been rebuilt in the years since 2004, some with composite decking material. The fence is painted every other year and has been repaired and repainted this year. The house exterior was painted in 2003. The roof was gone over and repaired and copper washed in 2006. The guest rooms have all been repainted and refurbished. Square footage (6,664) is based on appraisal.
