The house has a history that dates back to 1845, and today, still boasts the original Tulip Poplar wooden floors that had to be taken up, re-planed and then put back down.

Howe became the county seat in 1832 and was also the site of the first places of commerce in the county. The community became the center of trade for settlers in a fifty mile radius. In 1843, the county seat was moved to LaGrange to a more central location.
